EBBS Modules 1.0 has been released under the GNU license and is available at ftp://ftp.nipha.com/pub/ebbs-modules-1.0.tar.gz. EBBS Modules are an add on to EBBS 3.1.1, providing extra functionality to the bbs system. There are 7 modules in this initial release: Module Extras, Monitor, Stats, Query, Animation, PostWar, and Voting. The 2 basic premises of the modules is to stay as much out of the standard code as possible, and to be independent of each other. The main reason for this is to enable others to incorporate only the modules that they want to either stock or modified EBBS code easily. The modules add new functions to the builtin functions of EBBS. None of the stock functions are removed. The new functions are enabled by entries in the etc/menu.desc file. Short description of modules included in this version: MOD_EXTRAS: Module Extras - This module provides 4 main things -- 1) Extra System and User Configuration 2) Functions to display Server Configurations 3) Menu display of users online and system time 4) Cloak configuration The extra system and user configuration deal with runtime configuration of the system, and user preferences mostly in relation to modules. The display of server configurations are information screens of the standard system config as well as the extra system config. The menu display of users online and system time is identical to what is seen on the monitor, only on the menu screens. It is system configurable as well as user configurable. The cloak configuration wraps the normal cloak function with checks to match the cloak config specified in the extra system config. Options are no cloak allowed, only the Sysop account can cloak, and normal cloak operation. MOD_MONITOR: Monitor - This module is an interactive monitor screen. There are two modes: long (like the Long User List) and short (like the normal monitor). The main feature of this monitor is the ability to call functions directly from the monitor. The functions are mainly those found in the Talk menu, plus access to mail and read new. The "Monitor" menu, included in the menu.desc.modules file, must be added to menu.desc for the monitor to work. MOD_STATS: Stats - This module collects and displays statistics for users, currently logins, posts, postwar posts (if postwar module is installed), and chat entries (if Chat() is replaced by StatChat() in menu.desc). A sample "Stats" menu is included in the menu.desc.modules file. MOD_QUERY: Query - This module enables display of stats info and animation in the query. The stats module and/or the anim module must be installed as well. MOD_ANIM: Animation - This module enables ascii animation, currently only on the query screen. See separate file Animation.commands for information. MOD_POSTWAR: PostWar - This module enables a postwar mode for a specified board, and collects stats for postwar posts separately from regular posts. MOD_VOTE: Voting - This module is based on the EBBS 2.1 voting system, but has been greatly expanded, making the creation of polls more user friendly, allowing a system defined number of simultaneous polls (the absolute maximum is hard coded at 25), and allowing users to open a system defined number of polls as well as VoteAdmins. in vote.c Paul Snow psnow@nipha.com EBBS Modules is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2, or (at your option) any later version.
